What is STAR?

STAR: St Andrews Radio is an internet radio station based in Fife, Scotland. The station was founded in 2005, and is run entirely by volunteer students of the University of St Andrews. We are funded by the Students’ Association, and host regular live music events. You can read more about STAR’s history on the (st)archive.

Can STAR promote my music?

Yes! Send a song to Rebeka at [email protected]. We’re also happy to interview artists for starTV (video) and Hearing Aid magazine (text).

If you’re near (or passing through) Fife, we’d love for you to play at one of our events. Just email Rebeka!

Do you have a mailing list?

Yes! Sign up here for weekly emails about STAR.

How can I host my own show?

You can apply for your own show here. All shows are one hour each week, and everyone has to reapply at the start of each semester.

Can I use STAR's studio to record something?

Our schedule usually covers every hour the building is open, so there’s not much room for one-off recordings during term time. However, we do have external recording equipment that anyone can borrow. We’ll even show you how to use it! Contact [email protected] for more info.

Can I use the logo?

Please use STAR’s logo whenever sharing material relating to the station; logo files can be found here.

How can I publish an article on The Record?

We’re always looking for new pieces to publish, and it can be about anything you like! Contact our Co-Heads of The Record, Laura and Jesse, at [email protected]. If your article is about a specific musician or album, it might be better suited to our print magazine, Hearing Aid.

Can I help make videos for starTV?

Yes! We need people to film, edit, interview, and act. No experience is necessary, and we can provide equipment. Get in touch with Eleanor at [email protected].

Can I help with tech?

Yes! We need people to help record/broadcast events around St Andrews. No experience is needed, as we can provide training and all equipment. Contact Finn at [email protected].

If you’re interested in maintaining the website or studio equipment, you can apply to join the STAR committee in April, or in September for assistant positions. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates.

What is Hearing Aid?

Hearing Aid is a music magazine funded by STAR since 2013, producing three print issues every year. They’re always looking for people to interview musicians, review albums and gigs, and design each print issue. Contact [email protected] for more info.

Does STAR need help with graphic design?

Yes… We often need people to create posters for our live music events, and design new merch. Our Head of Design, Kate, has a hard life. If you want to help her, email [email protected].
