Cassian Marriner-Edwards on Mondo Drag

Take a pinch of Pink Floyd, a dabble of Hendrix and mix it with a chunk Sonic Youth, lashings of Radio Moscow and a side order of all the psychedelia you could ever want and what do you get?

The answer is after the jump.

A mess of contradicting musical ideas? Nine times out of ten I would say yes, but that is the exact recipe Iowa band Mondo Drag hit upon. Their debut album New Rituals is a musical progression that finds a more than tolerable intermediate between the ‘head in the clouds’ prog of the 70’s and the hard-hitting indie and stoner tracks of the decades after. In summation this album is a must listen and should have you gripped from the get go.
