FS2020 – Music Preview

The Record sat down with FS head of music James Wearmouth to chat about the up and coming FS2020 and what musical delights we can expect this Saturday.

Apart from fashion, a core element of the FS experience is the music. Attendees have year after year looked forward to FS as a core of the spring social calendar, in no small part for the intense house and techno beats of the Afterparty. Under the new FS Head of Music, James Wearmouth, FS2020 – on Saturday the 15thFebruary – will to be no exception. This year will witness FS’s biggest ever afterparty performer, Weiss, as well as an ambitious creation of different musical experiences in various room of the event, each complete with unique sounds, colours, and themes.

The chart-topping artist Weiss – whose singles “Feel My Needs”, “I Could Get Used to This” featuring the infamous Becky Hill and “You’re Sunshine” have provided him with over 100 million global streams – is fixed to rule the stage at this year’s FS afterparty. With his mastery of disco and house, Weiss’s set is sure to get even your shyest friends up and grooving.

FS2020 is certain to please everyone’s taste, with each room boasting a different musical vibe, covering a wide array of genres. Although anxious not to spoil too much about what students can expect from these colour-themed rooms, the head of music did seem to be particularly excited about the red room, which is set to feature only music associated with female empowerment (including classic artists such as Nina Simone).

Attendees should prepare themselves for a night of not only fantastic fashion and music, but also an environmental consciousness, as this year’s show has committed to the use of recyclable products in keeping with its designers focus on the use of sustainable materials. Unlike in previous years, the FS committee has decided to focus on their actions rather than simply promoting a social message. Even the gift bags will be sustainable, and will include coupons and goods from local and international businesses.

The James has assured The Record that the show and afterparty will provide the perfect escape for the students of St Andrews to unwind and enjoy one last bash with their closest friends before the ever-ominous deadline season sets in. So, if you haven’t gotten to fixr yet, grab one of the few tickets remaining to the show or afterparty and get ready to don your FS finery for a night to remember.
