BIPOCD: Issues on St. Andrews Campus
The show concept entails a wide range of topics, including but not limited to racism and discrimination: we have discussions around the ongoing impact of racism and discrimination against BIPOC and people with disabilities on campus and in society more broadly. Solutions on how to mitigate the impact are developed and shared as a source of inspiration to students who encounter these issues. Discussions around representation and inclusivity: We can public discourses on the representation and inclusivity of BIPOC and people with disabilities in campus and media spaces. We can share cultural appropriation and erasure: Discuss the ways in which BIPOC and disabled cultures are often co-opted and how they can be well mainstreamed in media and the St Andrews student society. Accessibility and accommodations: The show can discuss some of the hidden barriers that people with disabilities face in accessing education, employment, and other opportunities, and discuss ways to improve accessibility and accommodations on campus. Social justice and activism: Highlight the work of BIPOC and disabled activists and organisations, and discuss ways to support and get involved in social justice movements on campus and beyond school life. Intersectionality: exploring the ways in which BIPOC and disabled individuals experience multiple forms of oppression and discrimination, and the importance of understanding and addressing these intersections in a more pragmatic approach. Micro-aggressions: Exploring the impact of subtle and intentional acts of bias, discrimination, and racism towards BIPOC and disabled people and how to interrupt them on campus and beyond. Mental Health: The impact of systemic oppression and discrimination on the mental health of BIPOC and disabled people and the importance of providing support and resources for mental health and wellness through the school's mental health system and other pragmatic approaches.
