It is with great sadness that we learned that legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio passed away this Sunday after a six month long battle with stomach cancer.
Ahead of their 'Reclaim the Night' march against gender-based violence around St Andrews this evening (Friday 7th), STAR News reporter Hannah Franklin talked to Miranda Myrberg and Sarah Lohmann from the St Andrews Feminist Society about the march, the cause and the society.

The multitude of takeaway options in St Andrews is set to get a new addition in the next few months in the form of a new hot food outlet on Market Street. The new restaurant has now been approved by the Fife Council Northeast Area Committee despite opposition by both the St Andrews Preservation Trust and local retailers. The takeaway will take the place of the former art gallery which has been lying empty for 18 months.

Last week Cordula Schnuer from the STAR News Team sat down with Rector Kevin Dunion to chat about the past academic year. They reviewed some of the highlights of this year, such as the People's Summit which took place in opposition to the G20 or the recent On the Rocks festival. Kevin also talked more about his role as the Rector of the University of St Andrews and his time in office so far. STAR discussed some of the challenges facing the University such as affordability and the Union refurbishment and the Rector's role as the Chair of the University Court.
The Foreign Affairs Society recently hosted one of the most controversial and heated debates of the year. The title of the debate was "Progress and Development or Oppression and Assimilation?" with regards to the current situation in Tibet. The debate features members of both the Chinese and Tibetan societies passionately defending their beliefs. So if you couldn't make it to the event in person, STAR recorded the whole thing for your listening pleasure!
