This year’s May Ball is slated to be just as grandiose as ever – with fairground rides, big-name acts and an intricately decorated Kinkell Byre. There is little more that screams “St Andrews” than bidding adieu to the Candlemas Semester in style. We had the chance to chat with the Kate Kennedy Club before the big day…

Tell me a bit about the origins of May Ball…

May Ball has been hosted by the Kate Kennedy Club since the late 1980s.

May Ball has consistently been a hallmark of the St Andrews social calendar. What will make this year’s May Ball unique?

Even as a regular event on everyone’s social calendar, May Ball will not cease to disappoint any of our guests.

Classic guests can expect unlimited access to our 3 funfair rides, transport to and from Kinkell Byre, lounge area inside Kinkell, dance all night in the main room to music that would suit everyone’s taste, and a live show of Lost Frequencies from 10:45pm until midnight.

VIP guests can expect a champagne reception hosted by the members of the club, a separate clear tent accompanied with a separate bar area to avoid queues, lounging area, complementary sweets, and DJ’s, as well as access to everything that a classic ticket holder would.

You have a prestigious music line-up this year, including Lost Frequencies. What vibe can guests expect music-wise?

BPM will open up the night to set the atmosphere, followed by Lost Frequencies, and Expats would end the night with a combination of pop remixes combined with throwbacks and so much more.

The music line-up has been made in a way to suit everyone’s music taste, allowing the dance floor to never feel empty. Music is part of the main elements for a successful night, that’s why we’ve made sure to not let anyone down.

Do you have any wardrobe suggestions?

May Ball is a black-tie event. However, since it’s a night of partying and fun, it would be advised to wear something formal, but at the same time comfortable to make the best out of the event.

How is May Ball different than other events hosted by the Kate Kennedy Club?

This event is the second annual Ball hosted by the club, and it is the highlight of the end of the academic year, whereas Opening Ball manifests the beginning of it. It is an event that gathers all students to have one last night out before exam season sets in.

Anything else you want guests to know?

Simply to not miss out on an amazing night is the best advice we could give.
