What do the kids these days say again? Oh yeah, “It was lit”. The Edinburgh-based night club in 601 on April 2nd was exactly what I thought it would be: a group of blissfully happy St. Andrew’s students getting their rave on. With an entry fee of £2, it was well worth the money. As it was my first time attending club 601 for any event, I was pleasantly surprised that the music exceeded my expectations. The line-up consisted of Overground resident Wrisk b2b DJ Tesco (Crème Fresh). Disco balls, strobe lights, and jumping, pulsing dance moves were on the agenda for the night. As I listened and grooved, I encountered the very best version of ‘Hot Line Bling’ that I’ve ever heard with Drake dance impressions occurring all over the room. The event consisted of one room, two dj’s, three bartenders, four door greeters, and endless amounts of amazing dance music. While the turnout was small, the energy in the room was palpable. Others in attendance were also not disappointed by being given exactly what they wanted to hear on a Saturday night to let loose and have fun.  It was a bumpin’ club environment, one that St. Andrew’s students don’t often get to experience, and a very enjoyable Saturday night.

The event was put on in a joint effort made by Music Is Love and On the Rocks (the largest student run arts festival in the UK!). If you somehow don’t have social media or haven’t been paying attention, the On the Rocks festival lasts until April 10th with new events happening every day. This event, along with the opening party, helped the kick off the start of the festival weekend with great music and great vibes which will be followed by a week of intense, artistic fun. So if you missed out this weekend, I suggest you get your head in the game and go find the facebook group to stay updated on all things artsy. You won’t want to miss any more events like this!
