Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it Superman? This year, the race for DoSDA will finally answer the question as Kyle Blain, the Blain Plane, takes on Amanda Hollinger, or SuperManda if you will. Both candidates are credible candidates and will once more provide a hotly contested battle.

Kyle Blain, the current Charities Convenor has amassed huge experience at the Student’s Association that gives him vital knowledge for the role of DoSDA. Blain places particular emphasis on using University spaces to allow societies to flourish and wants changes made in both the Byre and Barron Theatre. Blain, who you probably recognise from hosting the pub quiz, is a truly serious contender who has strong policies that seems achievable should he be elected DoSDA.

Amanda Hollinger does however provide stern opposition for Blain and she too has experience on the charities campaign. She too is involved with subcommittees STAR and Mermaids. Hollinger wants to make societies more welcoming and create a community feel. Community is something that comes through in Hollinger’s manifesto, she wants society presidents to be trained so that a real feeling of a ‘student body’ is achieved.

It is not in question that either of these candidates will be able to perform the role of DoSDA well. Early indication on social media campaigns suggest that Blain is slightly ahead but again this can all change during the week.
