Dan Marshall, a 5th year student studying Astrophysics, set up the Campaign for Affordable Student Housing (CASH), officially launching on the 16th of November with a massive team of students behind him. Dan set up the campaign because he was tired of seeing students having to work long hours and move out of St Andrews just to be able to stay and study at this fantastic university. He feels that the construction of Albany Park gives students and the university an opportunity to fix the pressure on the housing market in our town.

The campaign aims to see the University dedicate itself to making accommodation affordable for students, with the hopes of putting particular pressure on the new construction of Albany Park. The campaign would like to see the entirety of this accommodation be made affordable.  They argue that this will give the housing situation in our town a well-needed relief and improve the accommodation situation for town and gown alike.

The Campaign has three aims for the semester:

1. To get students to sign the open letter to the Principle and the Director of Residential and Business Services (the people who run halls). The letter can be found here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScphwVWhz236ROc8WlNy0epyWjD6wbq4d6RxAqnMuxEFiNeVw/viewform

2. To ensure both candidates standing in the Senior Lay Member elections understand and support the issue of affordable accommodation.

3. To build the campaign big enough to fully represent students across the university who will be able to take the campaign further.
