In a cutting edge piece of journalism, I am going to provide you with a definitive list of the best Christmas songs. Hopefully this provides a kind of playlist for you all! Obviously, some songs go without saying.

Merry Christmas Everyone – Shakin’ Stevens

A classic; catchy and irresistibly Christmassy.

Do They Know It’s Christmastime? – Band Aid/Band Aid 30

Although there are several issues with some of the lyrics of this song, as once you tune in to how dehumanising it is, you can never go back, it is warm and jolly, especially due to all of the pop stars coming together.

Stop the Cavalry – Jona Lewie

There has been some debate amongst my friends as to whether this is the worst Christmas song of all time or the best.

Nazareth & Sparkle and Shine – Nativity Cast

This film spreads a lot of Christmas cheer and these songs are an instant mood lifter, I promise.

Christmas Lights – Coldplay

A more sentimental song, but nevertheless will not fail to put you in the Christmas mood.

Wonderful Christmastime – Paul McCartney

Mistletoe – Justin Briber

Driving Home for Christmas – Chris Rea

Last Christmas – Wham!

Tragically, this has made it into my top songs of all time just because it is a certified bop. I wish it were acceptable to listen to this throughout the year.

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas – Michael Bublé

Step Into Christmas – Elton John

Largely because of the iconic moment from last year’s Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.

Fairytale of New York – The Pogues

The BBC will be playing this on the radio without the slur which has caused some controversy, but does not take away from the fact that this is an excellent song.

White Christmas – Michael Bublé

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas – Frank Sinatra

Warming and sentimental, gives a real does of Christmas cheer.
