Art takes many forms and one of those forms is colouring. Art helps us understand who we are and how we see the world. Adult colouring books have become more popular in the last few years. They have become especially relevant during the lockdowns as we find ourselves with more free time than we all previously had.

Colouring is beneficial for a multitude of reasons. Firstly, it is a great stress reliever. Calmly colouring in blank spaces is very therapeutic and cathartic. Moreover, it’s nice to put on some chill songs or watch movies in the background. Additionallyit is important that we all express ourselves in some way, especially during these strange times. Colouring can inspire us and improve our mental health. Doing something productive can boost our mood and studies have shown that it is important to have a hobby where we produce something as this gives us a sense of purpose and fulfilment. Colouring is also a hobby which is very versatile as you can do it anywhere! If you’re waiting for a flight, or at home or fancy doing something with Netflix on in the background then colouring is the perfect fit. Moreover, it’s the kind of hobby where you can do it individually or with others. It is very personal and relaxing. Furthermore, it is accessible to everyone as you can easily buy a colouring book online or in most shops. All you need is the colouring book, some pens and your creativity and imagination. It can be a lot of fun.

I personally like bright colours and a vivid and sunny colour scheme. Over lockdown, I’ve really enjoyed colouring. It’s a wonderful creative outlet and when I want a bit more mental stimulation whilst binging Netflix, I get colouring. During these weird times, I’ve found colouring has been a great way to unwind and I’ve decorated my room with some of my artwork! I’d really recommend colouring! It’s a great artistic outlet and a wonderful way to de-stress. So why not give it a go!
